Admission Process
Admission Process

Admissions to the Law programmes will be conducted by the VMLS Admission Committee. The admission committee shall decide upon the following criterias –
1. VLAT Score
2. Academic performance
3. Statement of purpose
* Alternatively, LSAT-India/CLAT/AILET scores are also accepted.
Five Year Integrated Law Programme:
Eligibility:
- A pass in 10+2/Intermediate or equivalent examination. (Candidates appearing for April-May 2023 Examinations can also apply.)
- Not less than 45% marks for General Category, 42% for OBC and 40% for SC/ST.
Admission Criteria:
- VLAT 5 Score*
- 10+2 (or equivalent) marks
*Alternatively, the Valid Score of LSAT-India /CLAT / AILET and MHCET scores are also accepted.
Three Year Law Programme:
Eligibility:
- Bachelor’s degree in any stream from a University or an equivalent Institution recognized as deemed to be University or from a foreign University declared as equivalent to an Indian degree by a competent authority (Candidates who expect to graduate in June 2023 may also apply).
- Not less than 45% marks for General Category, 42% for OBC and 40% for SC/ST.
Admission Criteria:
- VLAT 3 Score*
- Bachelor’s Degree marks.
*Alternatively, Valid scores of LSAT- India / CUET and NLSAT scores are also accepted.
Academic Performance
- The Admission Committee shall consider the candidate’s 10+2 marks for admission for the 5 year programme.
- Similarly, the Admission Committee shall consider the candidate’s 10+2 marks and academic performance in the Bachelor’s Degree (and post graduate degree, if any) for admission for the 3 year programme.
Statement of Purpose
- All applicants to the degree programmes must submit a Statement of Purpose in the space provided in the VLAT Application form.
- The Statement of Purpose should indicate the driving force behind pursuing the law programme within 200 words.
- The SOP may be submitted in English or Tamil.

VLAT (VMRF Law Aptitude Test)
VMRF Law Aptitude Test is an entrance test specifically designed to understand the Reading and Comprehension Skills, Reasoning and Critical Thinking Ability of the students
that are essential to pursue Legal Education.Considering the different eligibility criteria for the Three Year and Five Year Programmes, two different sets of VLATs, VLAT 3 and VLAT 5 will be conducted respectively.

- Applicants are requested to take a printout of their Hall Ticket
- It is mandatory to produce the Hall Ticket during the online/offline examination
- The Applicant must present their Hall Ticket during the Personal Interview / Counseling Session

VLAT Format
- The question paper will consist of two different sections each containing objective multiple choice questions (MCQs).
- Logical Reasoning (20 Questions)
- English Comprehension (20 Questions)
- Duration of VLAT 2023 is 60 minutes.
- Mode: Online AI Proctored.
- Bilingual: English and Tamil.
- Practice Test will be enabled for the students.
- Each correct answer 1 mark. No negative marking.
- All questions are mandatory to attempt.
General Awareness
- This section will test the candidate’s general knowledge and knowledge of current affairs.
- VLAT 3 Candidates (for the 3 year LL.B. (Hons.))are expected to have basic knowledge of the Constitution of India.
Legal Aptitude
- This section will assess the candidate’s ability to think like a lawyer. Candidates will be expected to answer questions based on legal principles that will be provided.
- No prior knowledge of law is required.
Logical Reasoning
- This section will test the candidate’s problem solving skills.
English Comprehension
- This section will test the candidate’s ability to read and understand an English passage.
