Dr. Alisha Verma is an Associate Professor of Law at Vinayaka Mission’s Law School (VMLS), Chennai. She brings a strong blend of academic excellence, research depth, and practical legal experience. She holds a Ph.D. from Amity University Rajasthan, with her doctoral research focusing on the legality of commercial sex work in India. She is UGC-NET qualified and a gold medallist in her LL.M. from Amity University Rajasthan. She also holds an LL.B. from ILS Law College, Pune, and a B.Sc. in Bio-sciences from the University of Rajasthan.

With more than a decade of experience spanning academia and legal practice, Dr. Verma has previously served as an Assistant Professor at Symbiosis Law School, Pune, Amity University Rajasthan, Manipal University Jaipur, and Raffles University. Prior to entering academia, she practiced as an advocate before the District & Sessions Court, Jaipur District in Rajasthan, handling matrimonial and criminal matters. Her teaching expertise includes Research Methods and Legal Writing, Criminal Procedural Law, Code of Civil Procedure, Law of Evidence, Drafting and Pleading, and allied procedural subjects. She has also actively contributed to academic administration, including roles in quality assurance, curriculum coordination, moot court activities, and judicial services training.

Dr. Verma has a prolific research and publication record, with numerous papers published in Scopus indexed, Web of Science and peer-reviewed journals. Her scholarship engages with critical issues at the intersection of criminal law, human rights, gender justice, and socio-legal policy. She is the author of several books, including From Tolerance to Termination: Rethinking Laws on Commercial Sex Work in India, and has contributed chapters to reputed edited volumes published by Springer and other international publishers. In addition to academic writing, she is a regular columnist, with her articles appearing in platforms such as The Daily Guardian and The Print, where she addresses contemporary legal and policy debates.

Beyond research and teaching, Dr. Verma has actively engaged in capacity-building initiatives, delivering expert lectures, conducting workshops for law enforcement officials, and serving as a judge and resource person in national and international moot court competitions and conferences. She also holds registered design patents and is associated with academic editorial work, serving as a Senior Editor at Law Teachers India and a member of editorial boards of international journals.

Driven by a commitment to advancing legal education and social justice, Dr. Verma continues to contribute meaningfully to academia, research, and public discourse, with a vision to inspire future legal professionals and strengthen the interface between law and society. Beyond academia, she has a deep affinity for music & Urdu poetry, which continues to shape her creative and intellectual sensibilities.
