What is the VLAT Examination?

The VMRF Law Aptitude Test (VLAT) is an online and AI-proctored entrance exam conducted by the VMLS in multiple slots to select candidates in their law school. Through the VLAT examination, students can get admission to various courses like BA LLB, B.Com LLB, BBA LLB, and a three-year LLB Programme. The test is designed in such a way that it tests the students’ reading and comprehension skills, critical thinking ability, and reasoning skills.

For students considering the 5-year LLB course, the university conducts the VLAT, whereas for the three-year postgraduate LLB course, the VLAT PG is conducted every year. However, candidates can also use their CLAT, AILET, MH CET Law, and NLSAT scores to get admission into several law programmes at VMLS. VLAT Exam Pattern

The exam pattern for VLAT is the same for both the five-year and three-year LLB programmes. The total exam duration is 60 minutes, and the candidates are supposed to answer 40 MCQ-based questions. These questions are based on English comprehension and logical reasoning, and the exam is divided into two sections based on these subjects. Each question carries one mark and no negative marking scheme for wrong answers. However, candidates are required to answer all the questions.

The mode of the exam is online, and it is strictly proctored. Additionally, students can choose the language of the exam, it can be either English or Tamil. VLAT Exam Eligibility Criteria

The VLAT exam allows students to get admission to VMLS to learn from the best law faculties in the country. However, you must meet the eligibility criteria first to get admitted to VMLS. The eligibility criteria for both the five-year and three-year degree programmes in different. Hence, you must check the eligibility criteria before filling out the application form. Also, you can opt to take the exam in either English or Tamil language, as per your convenience.

  1. Eligibility Criteria for Five-Year Integrated Law Programme:

    The following parameters must be considered to enrol in the five-year integrated law programme:

    • Candidates must have passed their class 12th or equivalent examination from a recognized institute. Students appearing for their 12th board exams can also apply.
    • General category candidates must have obtained a minimum of 45% in the qualifying examination, OBC candidates must have a minimum of 42% and 40% for SC/ST.
  2. Eligibility Criteria for Three-Year Integrated Law Programme:

    For a three-year LLB programme, the following parameters must be considered:

    • Candidate must have completed a bachelor’s degree in any stream from a recognized institute.
    • Candidates appearing in the final year of their graduation can also apply for the exam.
    • General category candidates must have obtained at least 45% aggregate marks in graduation, OBC candidates must have a minimum of 42% and 40% for SC/ST.

VLAT Exam Application Process

The application process for the VLAT 2025 is currently open on the website since November 26, 2024. Eligible candidates must fill in the online application form and submit it on the website. There are two separate VLAT 2025 application windows for three-year and five-year LLB degree programmes. The fee for all the candidates applying for undergraduate programmes is INR 1000, whereas the application fee for postgraduate programmes is INR 1500.

Steps to Fill in the VLAT 2025 Application Form:

  1. Visit the official VMLS website
  2. Register yourself using your personal email ID and contact information
  3. Fill in the VLAT application form by entering the relevant details
  4. Pay the application fees
  5. Submit the application form with all the required documents

VLAT Exam Results

The VLAT exam results are announced right after the exam. Candidates can check their VLAT scores online from their registered account. The university also sends emails to students regarding the declaration of their results. Successful candidates are then invited for further admission process which involves counselling and releasing the provisional admission letter. Moreover, the university also accepts valid CLAT, AILET, MH CET Law, and NLSAT exam scores for admission to their law programmes. During the counselling, candidates must have their VLAT scorecard and provisional admission letter along with them. Also, top scorers of the VLAT UG are provided with a scholarship of up to 100%.
