Dr. P. Jyothimani, is a renowned former Judge of the Madras High Court. He holds a Ph.D. in Criminology from University of Madras. He has been awarded with Gold medals for securing highest mark in BGL, BL and ML degrees.
He had received several endowment awards and Gold medals like Justice. S. Panchapakesu Sastri Memorial Endowment, Laxmi Narasa Reddy Gold Medal and Chief Justice Veerasami Gold medals.
He enrolled as an advocate in the year 1975. He practiced in the High Court of Madras on Original and Appellate side dealing with Educational and Service matters.
He was standing counsel for University of Madras, Food Corporation of India, Bar Council of Tamil Nadu, Bar Council of India, Administrative General and Official Trustee of High Court, Pachaiyappas Trust Board, and Association of University Teachers.
After his 29 years of Practice, he was elevated as Judge of the Madras High Court in the year 2005. During his tenure, he delivered several landmark judgments and has disposed more than 45,000 cases.
He retired in the year 2012 and was appointed as Judicial Member in National Green Tribunal, New Delhi on 26th December 2012. He was transferred to National Green Tribunal, Southern Zone Bench at Chennai on 23rd May 2015 and retired from the NGT on 25th October 2017.
Justice Jyothimani has a special interest in Tamil Legal Education. He has been a speaker and resource person in a number of academic endeavors. He has a long association with academia from his days at the Bar to his days on the Bench.
